Sleep affects everyone. It is as essential as breathing or eating. The National Sleep Foundation hosts its annual Sleep Awareness Week® on March 8 -14, 2020. The annual event celebrates sleep health and encourages the public to prioritize sleep to improve their overall health and well-being. The Float Pod is a unique way to improve sleep naturally and helps focus on the benefits of sleep.
Sleep Science and Sleep Disorders
There are a myriad of sleep disorders such as: Excessive Sleepiness, Insomnia, Narcolepsy, Non-24-Hour Sleep Wake Disorder, Restless Legs Syndrome, Shift Work Disorder, and many more. Additionally, Americans admit to struggling with general sleep problems related to hectic work schedules, demanding lifestyles, and pregnancy/newborns, to name a few. According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, “Getting the right amount of uninterrupted sleep at the right time of day is key to one’s overall health. About 50 to 70 million Americans have sleep or wakefulness disorders. Sleep deficiency and untreated sleep disorders are associated with a growing number of health problems, including heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, obesity, and certain cancers.” Learn more from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute here.
The Science Behind Floating and Sleep
The science behind floating, particularly the sleep component are found in the pod. The pod creates a zero-gravity experience. If the client chooses, the pod can also be free of external stimulus such as sound or light. Floating has gained traction over the years as many realize that this combination is nearly impossible to replicate. Floating can help with both the quantity and quality of sleep that a client achieves. Clients can drift off into the delta wave state in the pod and sleep. Or the endocrine and nervous systems reset giving the body a greater capacity to sleep outside the pod. Read more about The Science of Sleeping Great.
Sleep Schedule Maintenance
Sleep can be considered both a physical and mental benefit of floatation therapy. Isolation tanks (known at True REST as Float Pods) have seen much success as an aid to those with insomnia or other sleep disorders. The sensory deprivation allows the brain a natural calm-down period, aiding those who have trouble entering this period naturally. Floats pods can reset sleep schedules for those needing to do so to maintain a healthy level of sleep, something many alternative medicine regimens attempt to cultivate.
Can You Actually Sleep in the Pod?
You can absolutely sleep in the pod! Many clients say that their favorite floats are when they are able to slip into the sleep state. For some, sleeping happens easier when the music is off, however, others feel like the music lulls them into a rest period. The water temperature is kept at 93.5, which provides a comfortable environment. Unlike hot tubs which can promote guests exiting premature as the temperatures rises to high points, or a pool in winter which has the same effect for the opposite reason, the pod’s perfect temperature relaxes clients for an hour float- some for longer!
