Float Therapy for Fibromyalgia, “A Miracle”

April 8, 2019

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disorder that affects the muscles, joints, and soft tissue. It’s very painful and affects just about every aspect of daily living. Our clients with fibromyalgia state that they’ve often tried just about every therapy and alternative solution they’ve come across before finding floating. Some are reluctant to think that simply floating for one hour would have any impact on their symptoms at all; however, we’ve seen life-changing instances of pain relief and healing. To put it lightly, we’ve seen miracles happen in front of our eyes.

A 2012 study from the Fibromyalgia Flotation Project found that flotation therapy provided 81 fibromyalgia patients a significant temporary reduction in pain, muscle tension, stress, anxiety and sadness, as well as significant increases in relaxation, sleep quality, energy levels, feelings of well-being, and ease of movement.

The Fibromyalgia Flotation Project was designed for medical professionals and patients to examine Float Therapy as a potential treatment option for fibromyalgia specifically. Two patients in particular are highlighted on their website:

“[It was] like stepping into a warmth that was hard to describe. I felt held, secure, safe, enveloped and surrounded by this wonderful water that was so good to feel against my painful body. I had immediate pain relief and no breakthrough pain for 17 hours after my first float.”

After seven floats, Tina puts her pain level at just 10% of what it used to be. Another patient had this to say about the results: “Flotation has made my life considerably better. I feel that it’s easier for me to take each day as it comes, which means that life gets easier. I feel much more positive and happy, and many of my friends confirm that.”

There are several reasons float therapy is extremely helpful to those with fibromyalgia. An hour of float therapy combines stress and anxiety relief with better quality sleep, significant pain relief, relaxed muscles and a boost of magnesium.

We’re grateful to be in this business to help people find true relief with float therapy. This is an exciting time to be involved with floating, and we’re proud to be on the forefront of providing pain relief, better sleep, and profound relaxation to those who need it most.
